Lot 0605 made by Momotaro is a pair of jeans with a normal waist and a tapered leg. The quality is just as good as vintage jeans from the middle of the 20th century but the fit has been updated giving them a more contemporary look shaped to suit the need of today. The fabric in the Momotaro jeans is woven by their in-house weaving company named Collect, which enables Momotaro to keep track and control the quality all the way from cotton fibre to finished products.

These jeans are made of a stunning 12 oz denim fabric made of cotton grown in Zimbabwe where the conditions for cotton with long and durable fibers are perfect. The cotton is then shipped to Japan where it is spun into thread and separated into weft and warp, and the warp yarn gets the magical treatment associated with indigo dyeing. The indigo also adds strength and durability to the fabric, and this together with starch from the weaving process is what gives the denim that special raw stiffness that you will encounter when breaking in a pair of raw denim jeans. With time it will soften and the indigo will fade, leaving traces of the person who wore them.

This 12 oz fabric makes us think about the heydays of denim back in the late 20th century when the fabric was not thicker than 8 oz, and the first half of the 20th century when denim was woven with a thickness of 12-14 oz. Time has showed us that most pants back in the days were tough like nothing else and aged to perfection when worn and we will be looking forward to see the same evolution in these jeans from Momotaro.

Here's a pair of Second Hand Momotaro 0605-12's. We would consider them good as they have just been tested out indoors.
